NEWS

May 1, 2008

On Saturday, May 10th we will have a photo outing. We will meet at Fort Willow at 8:30 am. Fort Willow is on Grenfell Road. To get there take Sunnydale Road west. At George Johnson Road there is a sign for highway 28. Keep going west to the next road, turn right. Drive to Fort Willow parking lot on your left – 2714 Grenfell. There may be a car pool.

Our regular meeting will be on May 13 at 7.30 in the Georgian Room at the Library.
Mike Clarke will give a presentation on light – how to adjust brightness etc.
We will expect you to bring a few of your pictures from Saturday for the last half of the meeting. We will be asking for input for the July 8th meeting.
It will be a joint meeting with BUG since their regular meeting date would be July 1st . We will be doing the program.

The Future of the Digital Imaging SIG for 2008-2009

Thanks to the pleasant fact that our group is growing, some of us have reached the conclusion that the time has come to reorganize.I am working on setting up a committee to carry on the programs for the SIG. Alva (membership) and Melvina have agreed to serve on it. I am looking for others.A more structured meeting seems the way to go. I hope, at the same time, to keep the pleasant social atmosphere which our SIG has achieved. We are hoping to have more speakers, from inside and outside the club. We hope to encourage participation from the group on topics provided by the committee. We are considering having a theme for each meeting and members asked to bring pictures based on that theme. We hope to get impute from the group as to what topics you would like to see presented, We would also appreciated suggestions for speakers.

We are thinking of having a very brief presentation on some aspect of Digital Imaging such as a program to use, a way to use a tool, etc. We will count on members to think about presenting one of these. There is a possibility that there may need to be an extra charge for the DI SIG. How this would be handled would need to be decided. However if the group continues to grow our room will be very cramped. Also some speakers will expect to be paid. BUG is planning to move its meetings shortly. There is not enough income to move both groups at the moment. We will stay where we are for now, but I would like you to consider if you were willing to pay a minimal charge to make our group more viable.

A new day has dawned - it is now March, 2008, welcome back

March 11: all about lighting and photography.  In particular about portrait photography, fstop and speed, bouncing light, using on camera flash and remote flash and the use of various reflectors such as an umbrella, use of backlights and so on. This writer took home two hints in particular: a) learn to use manual exposure and manual focus (like the old days!), and crank up the ISO esp when room lighting is to be used. In the latter case, white balance may have to be adjusted, esp when lighting is incandescent. The presentor was Mr. Andre Beneteau of Acme Photographic, a teacher we will definitely call upon again for other subjects such as composition and other types of photography (landscape, nature, and his specialty - architecture)
