Newsletter
Report
Don reported he printed Paul’s privacy report in
the October newsletter. He still needs more input.
Anniversary
Committee
Ray has been going through old newsletters.
He found an article by Dave written in 1985. He handed a copy to each
of the executive. It is titled “Why Help a Users Group” and
is still relevant. The first meeting of BUG took place in June 1983 in
the Blue Flame Room of Consumers Gas. Ray suggests making a time line
with pertinent information for each year of the club.
Webmaster
Paul reported nothing new since last month. There are more and more people
using the site. In regard to connecting links the PET users group has
disappeared.
Vintage
SIG
TPUG is still on the net.
PC
SIG
Mike will approach the library in an attempt to restore
a connection to the internet to the meeting rooms.
At the October meeting Ken Reese gave an interesting program on Genealogy.
He demonstrated “Master Genealogist” the program he uses.
November - Paul will do 15 minutes on window tips and 15 minutes on creating
a web site.
(He requested that he be given these times at each meeting)
The rest of the program will be on questions that have been asked such
as how to transfer email files from an old program to a new one; how do
you restore file associations etc.
Brian will do vintage cameras in February. Ken will assist.
Digital
Imaging SIG Report
12 members attended the October meeting. Mike gave an
introduction to creating a web site. “Word” can be used to
put on the information. There are free programs which will help. November
and December are to be a talk from Japan Camera if Melvina can organize
it, and a demonstration using a scanner especially slide copying
Video
SIG
Video SIG Participants are still engaged elsewhere. Ken
hopes to arrange a meeting for next month.
Business
Arising From Minutes
Paul will write a by-law regarding bereavement donations:
It was agreed $50.00 will be donated in memory of a member in good standing.
A sympathy card will be sent on the death of a family member. The practice
is to be adopted immediately.
It was suggested the $500.00 from the Herb Nye fund be
donated to the RVH’s Cancer Centre. Ken and Brian are to look into
the method of donation. We might achieve some publicity for the Club.
It was moved by Dave and seconded by Paul that we make
the Herb Nye Fund a donation to the RVH Cancer Centre. Passed
New
Business
Ray found a computer club which received a grant from the Trillium Foundation.
He suggested we look into criteria for a grant. He bought the prospectus
of the Foundation. Ken said he would read it and see if we could qualify.
Ray suggested that we consider choosing a member each
year for recognition of his/her contribution to the club. There was a
discussion as to the form of recognition and whether the executive should
be excluded from the choice. The subject was tabled for further discussion.
Robert is to bring the equipment for the Speaker System
to the next DI meeting and will demonstrate it either before or after
the meeting
Ken has a new email address: (hidden for
security reasons).
His CAVE group is attempting to keep their space. They plan free evenings
on Wednesdays. This is a Video group.
Motion
to Adjourn
